All about watering

HOW OFTEN DO YOU NEED TO WATER YOUR SUCCULENTS?

THE BEST WAY TO TELL IS BY THE APPEARANCE OF THE LEAVES.

Succulents store water in their stems and leaves. They have become highly adapted to very dry growing conditions, so they can survive a long time without water. They thrive on a bit of neglect! Too much love and attention can kill them!

How to water:

-Water the soil directly, not the plant.

-Soak the soil until water runs through the drainage holes.

-Do not mist your succulents with a spray bottle.

-Between watering sessions, allow the potting mix to dry to minimize overwatering, which can cause rot in your beauties.

-If your succulent starts to have wrinkly, fading leaves and potting mix is bone dry, it is a good time to give them a drink.

If you keep your succulent INSIDE:

Water them when needed.

If you keep your succulent OUTSIDE:

Do not water them between October and March.

We do not recommend leaving your succulents outside through winter unless you keep them in a heated greenhouse. Some hardy succulents can tolerate colder weather, but soft succulents (for example, Echeveria Compton Carousel) can’t survive outside in extremely low temperatures.

HOW TO RECOGNISE OVERWATERED OR UNDERWATERED SUCCULENT:

Signs of UNDERWATERED succulent:

– shrivelled up leaves

– wrinkly

– droopy, wilted look

– dried up/brown bottom leaves

– bottom leaves feel soft, flat, and crunchy

– leaves lost their firmness and plumpness

– bottom leaves start to dry from the top to the bottom of the stem

IF YOU FOUND THIS SIGNS, YOUR SUCCULENT NEED TO BE WATERED IMMEDIATELY!

Signs of  OVERWATERED succulent :

– leaves are soft and mushy

– leaves are almost translucent, full of water

– stem or leaves develop black spots

– plant is dying

– puffy stem

– not look well

– drop its leaves

– bottom leaves start to dry from the stem to the top of the leaf.

IF YOUR SUCCULENT SHOWS SIGNS ANY OF THE ABOVE, YOU NEED TO EASE BACK ON YOUR WATERING SCHEDULE. YOUR PLANT ABSORBED TOO MUCH WATER AND CANNOT TAKE MORE. IF YOU CONTINUE WITH WATERING, YOUR PLANT CAN ROT AND DIE.

PLEASE REMEMBER, if your succulent  is underwatered, you can help it relatively quickly, but if it is overwatered, there is often no way to save it. So water your beauties carefully.
